about

________

The story behind this song, and how it became a charity single:

I wrote "I Will Get There" in late April 2013, in direct response to the Boston Marathon bombing. With family and friends on the course, and waiting in the crowd at Kenmore Square, and with friends and friends of friends impacted by the blasts and their after-effects; I didn't know what I could do beyond feel awful and helpless...so I wrote a song. And one year later, here it is.

Purchase the song here on Bandcamp, and get it immediately via high-quality download. I'll be handing 100% of my proceeds from Bandcamp sales (about 85 cents per download) to One Fund Boston, who give 100% of *their* proceeds to those most affected by the marathon bombing.

Or, of you want to, donate directly to the One Fund here: secure.onefundboston.org/pages/donate

________

I Will Get There

You could throw your arms around them
Suffocate and drown them
In a love like all the world has shown to your hometown
You could see light peek through the darkness
Though you think that term is artless
In calling out a god that seems more lost than found

I will get there when I'm ready
I will get there when I'm ready
I will get there — make some room for happiness
I will get there

Try to hope because it's hopeful
If they offer you a rope you'll
Grab on tight and let them take you anyway
When a little bit of innocence is stolen
When a piece of your heart is broken
Smile despite the ache that makes you hesitate

I will get there when I'm ready
I will get there when I'm ready
I will get there — make some room for happiness
I will get there

Give it some time and distance
The path of most resistance
Not dealing
Still reeling
This feeling

I will get there when I'm ready
When I'm ready I will get there
Make some room for happiness
I will get there when I'm ready
Get there when I'm ready
I will get there — make some room for happiness
I will get there
I will get there
I will get there

about

Ross Freedman Chicago, Illinois

Ross Freedman wrote his first song, “The Martian Street,” in third grade, and it was a huge hit. Piano lessons—and an indifferent attitude toward practice—followed.

Armed with influences from across the pop spectrum, Freedman brings them together in compactly crafted, power pop-inflected songs. His sound owes a debt to Joe Jackson, Neil Finn, Aimee Mann and Ben Folds.
